hokelore @ 11:17 am: quick and easy skin repair?
Hi, just joined the group. I've dug up a dumbec that I used to play, and also thinking out starting my son on it. I took it out of the bag, and remembered why it got set aside. There's a small tear in the skin, near the rim. I was wondering if a little piece of duct tape , stuck on the underside, would take care of the problem.

Has anyone tried that?

katitious @ 01:09 pm: Hi!

I'm considering trying to learn how to play the doumbek. (I'm a belly dancer and I'm in love with the drum!)

Does anyone here have any information on any classes in or near Chicago?

Also, any suggestions for someone just starting out? Any good online resources? Any must-have DVDs?

Thanks so much!!

solfrejazz @ 06:34 pm: My connection with the doumbek
Hi guys,

I'm Solomon and I just joined this community. I am a western percussionist primarily but I really enjoy drumming on the doumbek I just bought (see picture below).

My favorite music track with this instrument in it is Zahrafat Al Sa'Id performed by the The Musicians Of The Nile of the compilation Mondo Beat.

thespian @ 05:20 am: no, animal, beat drums, beat drums!
I won't post it all here since it's Afro-Brazilian, not middle-eastern, but if any of you are in Toronto and want to pick up a new beat (maracatu), I'm going to start this this week, I think.
